Tues 9th 2010

Today we finished Editing !!
The sound is almost completed as well, we just have to record one last line using Keeley's voice!!!!
As Barney watched our film he gave us some constructive advice on areas we could improve on this ranged from sound to editing. Overall the feedback barney gave was very positive and it proved that our hard work had paid off......

05/03/10

Today it was just David and I , as other film members went to the trip.
Lizzie told David to what to record in terms of sound effects for our film.
We had to make sure the ambient noise fitted the film.

We recorded the 'ringing phone' vibration in this lesson and instead of recording it through the MP3 recorder which was not available at the time we used the Mac's internal microphone which was just as effective as all the other tools which we had used, all we had to do was make sure everyone was quiet

I am Sound Director

For this project it was my job to make sure that the sound would be properly recorded to enhance the films audio, as a soundtrack from Garage Band was not what the group and i had decided would be fit for this genre of film our coursework fitted. I also managed to obtain various and different sound and ambient noises which would help me form the ambient noises for our background soundtrack. As a sound editor it was also my job to take the recordings i had recorded, edit them and make sure that they fitted the footage which Shaun had shot and Keeley had edited. For example, i recorded my voice on a voice mail message and then re-recorded it straight on to the MP3 recorder and then imported it onto our film for me to edit in time with the footage.

SEAN

I AM CINEMATOGRAPHER

During filming, it was my job to set up the camera for each individual shot and film the action that Lizzie directed.

Main problems included the creaky tripod and keeping the balance straight, but despite this it went well.

I filmed around 15 minutes of footage to be cut down to 5, including multiple shots of some scenes, so that the editor can use the best shot possible.

One of the best shots in my opinion was the one of Lizzie opening the bathroom door and turning the flickering light on. I managed to get it so that the camera wasn't visible through the mirrors but Lizzie's face could be seen, which I thought was good.

One of the problem shots was of Lizzie's POV following Keeley leaving the kitchen. I kept panning too fast or slow, so we either saw Keeley's arm closing the door or we just saw the door already closed. However, I overcame this and eventually filmed the perfect result.

11.02.10

11th feburary 2010
In this lesson the team focused on editing and as a result our film started to take a rough shape. We also finalized the clips and audio we were going to use in our film, so as to make Keeley's job a lot easier. Our film was in complete chronological disorder, as we had to consider the lighting and timing issues; which made the 'placing of footage in the correct order' a lot harder.
by Sean and Lizzie and part of David.
9th of feb 2010 .
In this session we uploaded our film. Keeley the editor got to work on separating the usable clips from unusable, to slot them into chronological order according to our story bored we sketched out earlier.
David borrowed the MP3 recorder and started to list the amount of sound effects he had to record in order to improve the audio quality of the film.
Lizzie on the other hand had her sheets at the ready with Sean to help keeley in knowing what order the shots were in.

About the filming!!

This was the Day that the group and I had allocated as an appropriate day to film our coursework. Like expressed before we had decided to film at Lizzie's house for it was an appropriate location for the setting and the background of the story. The equipment which we took with us was only a camera as Lizzie was supplying us with the tripod and both the storyboard and also the lines.
Sean had already prepared the order of shots for us to film, so when we got to the house we finalized what the order of shots, were and also which rooms we were filming in.

As Sound Director i also had to give my creative input into the process of choosing the various rooms we were going to film in. Also as Sound Director i had to ensure that the sound and voice were recorded properly and the quality was of good enough standard.

2nd february 2010 / 4th february 2010

2.02.2010:

in this lesson we started to storyboard our ideas . This gave us a fairly good idea of the shots we wanted to use and how we will go about obtaining them. Also in this lesson we decided on the location of the film and also the storyline.
We also have decided on the dates, times and location in which we are going to film our coursework:
Friday 5th feb - 4.00pm - 7.00 + - main filming
Mon 8th feb - 2.00pm - WHENEVER - back up filming
Location: Lizzie's house- Stow cum quy
(Lizzie, David)

4.02.2010:

Lizzie showed the first draft of the script, which helped Sean storyboard some of Keeley's ideas on camera shots and also camera angles. The script also gave us a rough idea on how smooth the dialogue and the filming would run. Through obtaining the Script and the completed storyboard we now have a rough idea how long it will take us to film and if we can fit all the filming in the allotted time provided to us through the Longroad Film studies department. Because, of the size of the script and the storyboard we believe that we will not have enough time with the school camera so Sean, Keeley and Lizzie have offered to use there camera's if we decide to take another day in filming our coursework. Inspiration

We watched a similar short movie to our concept:
D I D, about a man trying to scatter his mother's ashes, he has multiple personalities, one calm, one angry and one shy and silent. We see his struggle to overcome his worst personality so he can scatter the ashes where he wants to. Twas goooood.

Initial Ideas

28/29th January 2010:

Brainstormed ideas ..
IDEAS FOR FILM:

- (1) interviewing mental person in room then gets trapped in then everyone thinks he is crazy. He tries to escape he gets out and then he can't leave because, they all think he is mental and he ends up driving himself crazy over how sane he is.. (first idea.. dismissed)

- (2) Imaginary friend:
Aim to make audience assume PERSON is talking to someone, and really make them believe this person is real. Then at the end of the short film , we leave it open to suggest that this 'friend' the PERSON is talking to is NOT REAL!!

Ideas for shots - to make the audience think the imaginary friend is REAL!
- Camera on PERSON (Pans left 180 degrees)
Person talking to IF (Imaginary Friend) as camera pans , and comes to where IF would be, the door close's (making it look like IF has left the room). PERSON asks 'Where are you going?' etc..
- PERSON goes out to trampoline. Camera looking through window. PERSON on trampoline signaling for the 'IF'/ CAMERA to come out on the trampoline.
- Scene where PERSON offers IF a drink, IF wants milk, little banter, about 'Why milk' etc..
Shot : Camera on table, recording milk, press record, use straw to make milk go down. etc.
-Argument, PERSON goes out with friend, when she comes back, IF isn't there . daa daa duuuhhhh.
- Ends on PERSON trying to find IF , but can't! , REVEALING of IF!!
- Use tracking, behind PERSON to make audience feel like IF really following, as walking upstairs , (Foot steps ? both? )
